An honest conversation with your doctor

Talking with your doctor is the first step. Have an open, honest conversation with your doctor. At your appointment you should discuss your current medical conditions and your medical history to determine if you have an underlying condition causing your hypogonadism, and ask if you should have your testosterone levels evaluated. Then go over your results together. If your doctor diagnoses you with hypogonadism due to certain medical conditions and decides treatment is right for you, you could also ask questions like:

  • What treatment options are available if I have hypogonadism due to certain medical conditions?
  • Are there any changes I can make in my diet, fitness and lifestyle to help address hypogonadism?
  • Can we work together to set a list of goals for my treatment plan?
  • How do I know if I have an underlying medical condition causing hypogonadism?

Key points

  • The first step in finding out if you have a medical condition causing your hypogonadism is to talk to your doctor.
  • If you are diagnosed with hypogonadism due to certain medical conditions, ask your doctor about treatment options.

Diagnosis only requires a single blood test.
