Remember, AndroGel 1.62% is not a cure for hypogonadism, sometimes known as Low Testosterone, due to certain medical conditions. It's a gel that you must apply routinely, as you would take a daily medication.

It's important to apply AndroGel 1.62% every day as instructed by your doctor. If you stop treatment, your testosterone levels could fall back to where they were before you started using AndroGel 1.62%.

In a clinical study of 274 men who had low testosterone, some used AndroGel 1.62% and some used placebo. Of the men who used AndroGel 1.62% once daily for 16 weeks, 82% had their testosterone levels returned to normal compared to 37% of those who used placebo.

The most common side effects of AndroGel 1.62% include increased prostate specific antigen (a test used to screen for prostate cancer), mood swings, high blood pressure, increased red blood cell count, and skin irritation where AndroGel 1.62% is applied.

Tips for using AndroGel 1.62% correctly

Remember to use AndroGel 1.62% daily as prescribed by your doctor. Apply AndroGel 1.62% at the same time each morning. AndroGel 1.62% should be applied after showering or bathing to clean, dry, intact skin. Then take a few minutes to let it dry. After the gel has dried, cover the application site(s) with a shirt.

It is important to know that AndroGel 1.62% can transfer from your body to others. This can happen if other people come in contact with the area where the AndroGel was applied.

AndroGel 1.62% is flammable until dry. Let the gel dry before smoking or going near an open flame.

If you're switching from AndroGel 1% to AndroGel 1.62%, remember that AndroGel 1% and AndroGel 1.62% application sites and dosages are not interchangeable.

AndroGel® (testosterone gel) 1% and 1.62% are controlled substances, available by prescription, used to treat adult males who have low or no testosterone due to certain medical conditions. It is not known if AndroGel is safe or effective to treat men who have low testosterone due to aging. It is not known if AndroGel is safe or effective in children younger than 18 years old. Testosterone products that are applied to the skin may have different doses, strengths, or application instructions that may lead to different levels of testosterone in your body.
