What is a normal T level?

Although levels vary with age, T levels between 300 ng/dL and 1000 ng/dL are considered to be in the normal range for a healthy adult male.

Why haven't I heard about Low Testosterone before?

How do I prepare the AndroGel 1.62% pump?

Before using a new bottle of AndroGel 1.62% for the first time, you will need to prime the pump. To prime the AndroGel 1.62% pump, slowly push the pump all the way down 3 times. Do not use any AndroGel 1.62% that came out while priming. Wash it down the sink to avoid accidental exposure to others. Your AndroGel 1.62% pump is now ready to use. You do not have to prime your pump every day, only the first time you use it.

How do I use AndroGel 1.62%?

Make your application part of your daily routine.

  1. Apply AndroGel 1.62% at the same time every day at the same time each morning. AndroGel 1.62% should be applied after showering or bathing to clean, dry, intact skin. Do not apply AndroGel 1.62% to any other parts of your body such as your stomach area (abdomen), penis, or scrotum
  2. Once primed, press down firmly to dispense the gel. Your healthcare provider will tell you how much AndroGel 1.62% to apply. Your healthcare provider may change your AndroGel 1.62% dose. Do not change your dose without talking to your healthcare provider.
  3. Apply the gel to the application sites as directed in the chart below. These areas are your shoulders and upper arms, areas that will be covered with a short sleeve T-shirt.
  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until you have applied the dose your doctor has prescribed for you.

  6. AndroGel 1.62% is flammable until dry. Let the gel dry before smoking or going near an open flame.
What if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose and your next dose is less than 12 hours away, just wait to apply your normal dose the next day. Do not double your dose the next day.

If your dose is more than 12 hours away, go ahead and take the dose that you missed. Resume your normal dose the next day.

Why do I need to use AndroGel 1.62% every day?

Low Testosterone requires ongoing treatment, so you must use AndroGel 1.62% daily, as prescribed by your doctor.

How well does AndroGel 1.62% work?

Using AndroGel 1.62% every day can help bring your testosterone levels back to normal and with continued use can help keep them there.


In a clinical study of hypogonadal men, 82% of men who used AndroGel 1.62% every day for 16 weeks had their T levels restored to normal compared to 37% of men who used placebo.

However, if you stop using AndroGel 1.62% every day, your T levels may fall back to your previous levels.

Before applying your first dose of AndroGel 1%, you'll need to press down firmly on the pump 3 times. Then dispose of this extra gel in a way that others cannot accidentally touch or swallow it. You do not have to prime your pump every day, only the first time you use it.

How do I use AndroGel 1%?

  2. If using the pump, once primed, press down firmly on the pump one time. AndroGel 1% is also available in packets. Each packet of 2.5 g or 5 g of gel contains 25 mg or 50 mg of testosterone. If using the packets, you can open them by tearing along the dotted line. Squeeze the contents into the palm of your hand. Squeeze from the bottom of the packet up.
  3. Apply the gel to one or more of the application sites. These areas are your shoulders and upper arms, or stomach area, or shoulders, upper arms and stomach area. Do not apply to your penis or scrotum.
  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until you have applied the dose your doctor has prescribed for you.

    Signs of puberty that are not expected have happened in young children who were accidentally exposed to testosterone through skin-to-skin contact with men using topical testosterone products like AndroGel 1.62%.

    Women and children should avoid contact with the unwashed or unclothed area where AndroGel 1.62% has been applied. If a woman or child makes contact with the AndroGel 1.62% application area, the contact area on the woman or child should be washed well with soap and water right away.

    To lower the risk of transfer of AndroGel 1.62%:

    • Apply AndroGel 1.62% only to shoulders and upper arms, areas that will be covered by a short-sleeve T-shirt.
    • Do not apply AndroGel 1.62% to any other parts of your body, such as your stomach area (abdomen), penis, or scrotum.
